NEIVA (2010 South American Championship) - Uruguay had to suffer but reached the semifinals of the South American Championship by beating Chile 75-64 in the last day of the preliminary round.

The Chileans won the first quarter 18-16 and at half they had a 35-27 lead as Patricio Briones led the way with 10 points.

In the second half Uruguay had a great performance from long distance led by Mauricio Aguiar and Fernando Martinez. The Uruguayans shot 7-9 from three point range in the second half and took the lead late in the third quarter with a three pointer by Aguiar.

Then in the final ten minutes Uruguay started with a 10-1 run to never look back.

Fernando Martinez scored 23 points, Joaquin Izuibejeres 14 and Esteban Batista 13 with 9 rebounds for Uruguay.

Chile had Patricio Briones with 19 points and Franco Morales 12. The Chileans finished with an 0-3 record.
