7/28/2010

SALTA (2010 FIBA World Championship) - Argentina coach Sergio Hernandez has heaped praise on the attitude of his players as they get down to business in their preparations for the 2010 FIBA World Championship.

The team has moved to Salta in the north of the country for a training camp and Hernandez, speaking at an introduction before the local media, spoke of his pride in his players.

"I'm happy as long as I am able to lead this group of players that fill me with pride and teach me things every day," he said.

"Not just about basketball, but the values of life, despite them being younger than me. They're great people.

"We have some young guys here and the players can pass on their experience and be teachers."

Hernandez admitted the team were a long way off being ready for the tournament to tip off on August 28, but he has not doubt they will get there as the players get into their stride.

"The players have come in having played in many different competitions, some of which have only just ended, some of them being more important than others," he said.

"But when they get here you see a big lift in them. Today was our first day of training, and we're going to miss a lot of shots and so on for the few days, but we will get better as we find the collective tempo.

"We're spending a little bit of time on everything - physical, technical, tactical and game-specific things.

"While in Salta, we want to bring back memories of old ideas, incorporate some new aspects and then get ourselves back to being a team so that we can go to Europe in the best possible condition for the World Championship."

Argentina have been drawn in Group A for the World Championship along with Angola, Australia, Germany, Jordan and Serbia.

The twelve players that will be in the FIBA World Championship will come fron this list: Pablo Prigioni, Juan Pablo Figueroa, Carlos Delfino, Paolo Quinteros, Andrés Nocioni, Hernán Jasen, Federico Kammerichs, Luis Scola, Leonardo Gutiérrez, Fabricio Oberto, Pablo Espinoza and Patricio Garino. Juan Fernández, Juan Pablo Cantero, Matías Sandes, Marcos Mata, Román González and Juan Gutiérrez will come out after the South American Championship.
