
NEIVA (2010 South American Championship) - Brazil won Group A of the South American Championship with a 3-0 record after winning over Paraguay 93-81.
Murilo Becker scored 20 points, Jonathan Tavernari 16 and Fulvio De Assis 15 for the Brazilians who will wait for the team that finishes second in Group B to play in the semifinals.
The Paraguayan team came out determined to win this game and dominated most of the first quarter, until in the final seconds a three pointer by Jonathan Tavernari gave Brazil a 24-23 lead.
In the second quarter both teams traded the lead but the dominance by Becker and Tavernari gave Brazil a 49-39 halftime lead. Becker had 14 points, Tavernari 11 and Duda Machado 8.
In the second half the Brazilians stayed on top and Paraguay could not score from long distance to lose their second game in the first round.
Brazil made 14 three pointer and 21 free throws which was key in their win.
In the loss Enrique Javier Martinez had 18 points while Bruno Zanotti and Guillermo Araujo netted 16 each.
