
SAN GERMAN - The Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico won on day one of men's basketball in the CAC Games played in San Germán.
The Dominican Republic defeated the British Virgin Islands 77-54 as they won the first quarter 29-10.
In the win Elpidio Fortuna had 15 points, Jack Michael Martínez 14 and Cristian Arias 13.
Kleon Penn netted 12 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for British Virgin Islands.
In the other game played, Puerto Rico dominated Mexico 77-62. The Puerto Ricans could not find the rim early but three baskets from long range by Carmelo Lee gave Puerto Rico a 15-8 first quarter lead.
The combination of Carlos Arroyo, José Juan Barea, Ángel Vassallo, Carmelo Lee and Nathan Peavy gave Puerto Rico their definitive advantage and never looked back.
With 7:58 left, Carlos Arroyo and Omar Quintero had a physical altercation and both of them were ejected and suspended for their next game.
Nathan Peavy had 18 points and Carmelo Lee 17 for Puerto Rico.
