The institution organizes and controls, in coordination with FIBA, the men's and women's FIBA Americas Championship (Olympic and World Cup Qualifying) tournaments, determining the financial system and the competition system. Also, organizes and controls, in coordination with FIBA, the FIBA Americas youth championships that will qualify national teams to the youth World Championships. Previous to these events, there are tournaments of the sub-zones that are held where the representatives of the Central American and the Caribbean zones are selected, which will participate in the FIBA Americas Championships. The South American championships are carried out in the same vein.
Also FIBA Americas technically directs the zonal and Pan-American basketball tournaments. Example of these are the Central and Caribbean organized by the Central American and Caribbean Sports Organization, (ODECABE), along with the Panamerican Games under the jurisdiction of the Panamerican Sports Organization (ODEPA). For these events our secretariat rules, governs and controls the assignment of referees.
Throughout our organization we distribute and enforce actual FIBA game rules. With this goal we designed a course of clinics at national level, under the technical commission supervision and in coordination with our adjunct secretaries general.
Also, we carry out in coordination with FIBA, international clinics for referees. A program of referees instructors has been designed and established with the sole purpose of keeping the uniformity in the teaching when implementing the game rules.
